Getting Ready to Make Matcha

Matcha Bowl (Chawan) Bamboo Scoop or small spoon (Chashaku) Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) & whisk holder Tin of matcha (Natsume- container for tea) Electric Kettle for hot water Strainer (optional) Hand towel or tea cloth (Chakin) Steps to make a perfect bowl of matcha: 1) Layout everything you need on your countertop to begin making matcha. 2) Heat the water in an electric kettle and turn it on. The great thing about the electric kettle is that it automatically turns off right when the water comes to a boil. This is perfect for making matcha as you don’t want to boil the tea, but simply bring the water up to a boil, then turn it off and let it cool a little to about 190 degrees. 3) Measure 1/2 teaspoon of matcha and place into a bowl. In the photo, a sterling baby spoon is used equaling 1/2 level teaspoon of matcha. Or scoop the matcha the traditional way using a bamboo scoop.
